Me and my friend were messing around a couple months ago and he put his penis on the outside of my private area, but did not put it inside me. Can I still get gonorrhea?

If there were no sexual fluids around, like semen (cum) or vaginal fluids, you probably didn’t get gonorrhea. Skin-to-skin contact — like putting a penis on (but not in) the vulva — is unlikely to spread gonorrhea.

But there are other STDs (such as herpes) that can be spread that way. So in the future, use condoms to protect yourself and your partner if you have sex or do anything sexual that involves skin-to-skin contact with genitals.

People who are sexually active should get tested for STDs at least once a year. It’s easy, quick, and affordable at Planned Parenthood health centers.
