help! i really want to have sex and i know i’m ready but i’m TERRIFIED of getting pregnant . is it possible to get pregnant if u use birth control pills and a condom and if both are used correctly?(even if the condom breaks). where can i buy birth control pills and how much would they cost?
It’s great that you’re thinking about birth control before you have sex. And using condoms with another kind of birth control is a good idea because then you’ll reduce the risk of getting at sexually transmitted infection as well as becoming pregnant.
There is no 100-percent effective birth control for people who have vaginal intercourse. But the pill comes close. Fewer than one of 100 women a year who use the pill correctly — every day — will get pregnant. About 8 out of 100 will become pregnant if they don’t use the pill correctly, every day. Many women who take the pill also use condoms, because the pill offers no protection against sexually transmitted infections — only latex and female condoms do.
You’ll need to get a prescription for birth control pills. Visit a Planned Parenthood health center, a clinic, or a private health care provider for a prescription. Your health care provider will discuss your medical history with you, check your blood pressure, and give you any other medical exam that you may need. If you need an exam, it may cost about $35–$250, depending on where you live.
Birth control pills may be purchased with a prescription at a drugstore or clinic. They cost about $15–$50 a month.
Planned Parenthood works to make health care accessible and affordable. Some health centers are able to charge according to income. Most accept health insurance. If you qualify, Medicaid or other state programs may lower your health care costs.
Call your local Planned Parenthood health center to get specific information on costs.
