How do you know when your period is coming?
There may be signs. There may not be. For some girls, the signs that their periods are going to start are: tender breasts, feeling tense, and swelling of the abdomen or other parts of the body. Sometimes there’s a crampy feeling in the back, legs, or abdomen. Some girls get pimples a few days before.
Some people mark a calendar with an X on the days they bleed. Keeping a calendar for a few months may let you see a pattern. If your pattern is regular, tracking your period on a calendar will let you be able to predict when your next period may arrive.
As you get older, you’ll become more familiar with signs that your period is coming. Learn more about your period.
Okay so my older sister is having her periods wayyyy more oftan than me she has been having them wayyy longer than me is that natural?
You are different from every other girl in the world. Your periods and menstrual cycles will be different, too. What will be normal for you may not be normal for anyone else. Your cycles may not always last the same number of days when they first begin. Your first few periods may not all be the same either.
It may take a while for your body to get things going smoothly and regularly. You may have a light flow or a heavy flow. You may even skip some months. Your period may be late when you get sick. It may be late when you worry about things like taking a test at school. It may be late for no reason at all. Most likely your periods and cycles will become more regular as you grow older.

I’m 14 and have started my periods a few months ago. I get slightly darker discharge before my period and my abdomen makes gurgley noises like when i’m hungry before and on my period. Is this normal?:)
Hi Jaz,
Some discharge or breakthrough bleeding — also known as spotting — is normal, especially when you just start having your period. The stomach-rumbling could just be because you’re hungry, and a lot of women experience some perfectly normal abdominal pain or cramps before their period. If you’re worried that anything about your period isn’t normal, talking to a health care provider could help clear stuff up.

Hi there,
It’s not possible for us to tell you exactly when you’re going to get your period. But we can tell you that about half of girls get their period by age 12, and half get them later. There might be signs when you’re getting your first period, or there might not.

I have had all the symptoms since 5 grade and I’m in 7 grade now. Idk what’s wrong with me?
Hi Kk,
About half of girls get their periods by the age of 12, and half are older. So it’s totally normal to be in 7th grade and not have a period yet.
